In the middle of August, the Fukuyama Summer Festival spreads throughout the entire city. The Summer Night Festival brings a contest of light and sound. The Niagari Odori dance is an exciting twilight event filled with elegance and emotion and a tradition of over 300 years that has been designated as a prefectural intangible folk culture asset. Numerous citizens participate in these events, parading through town while spectators from nearby towns and villages crowd the streets. The Fireworks Festival is held on the last day over the Ashida River. 8,500 fireworks illuminate the night sky, captivating onlookers.
