The Fukuyama Rose Festival The Fukuyama Rose Festival
In the middle of May, when the roses across the city begin to bloom, a variety of events are held, primarily at the Rose Park and Midori-machi Park. These events include a rose contest, flower arrangement, a rose music festival, a plaza festival and a rose parade.
Summer Festival The Fukuyama Summer Festival
Every year, the Fukuyama Summer Festival is celebrated throughout the city on August 13, 14, and 15. The Niagari-odori dance contest is an exciting twilight event and numerous citizens participate in it. They parade through town while spectators from nearby towns and villages crowd the streets. The Summer Night Fureai Festival is held on the main shopping street. On the last day, a fireworks festival is held over the Ashida River. 13,000 fireworks illuminate the night sky, captivating onlookers.

National Treasures

The Myooin Temple The Myououin Temple
The Myououin Temple is believed to have been founded by the High Priest Kobo Daishi in 807 A.D. This architectural blend of an entirely Japanese-style main building with detailing that incorporates Chinese elements is the oldest existing architecture of its kind. The exquisite five-tiered pagoda is the fifth oldest of the pagodas that have been designated as a Japanese national treasure. Myououin's main hall was also designated as a national treasure.

The farmers in Fukuyama City take pride in producing a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. These products are marked with authorized stickers.
Fourteen kinds of vegetables are produced: spinach, a kind of Chinese cabbage, chrysanthemum coronarium, strawberries, chives, cucumbers, green asparagus, egg plant, aodai cucumbers, onions, gingers, potherb mustard, kintoki carrots, and arrowhead. Six kinds of fruits are produced: grapes, persimmons, kiwis, figs, plums and apricots. Shiitake mushrooms are also produced.
